The Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center is proud to announce the launching of its Saginaw VA Nursing Journal Club in February. The club is aimed at promoting research utilization and Evidence Based Practice among nurses at the facility and community based outpatient clinics.

The Office of Nursing Service (ONS), in its strategic plan (2010-2014), included the goal of creating “an environment of inquiry in which all nurses apply the best available evidence to improve health care delivery and outcomes throughout the VA”1.  The Nursing Journal Club will help “demystify” Evidence Based Practice among nurses and engage them in research in a non-threatening environment. Furthermore, “the implementation or expansion of evidenced-based practice”2 is a goal of the VA Nursing Academy as well. The Nursing Journal club is an innovative way to accomplish this goal.
