Veterans Affairs Medical Center Director appointed

The Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced Ms. Denise Deitzen, Medical Center Director, Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan, has been appointed to be the Health System Administrator/Medical Center Director of the Northern Indiana Healthcare System for Marion and Fort Wayne, Indiana VA Medical Centers effective December 1, 2012.

Ms. Deitzen has been the Director of the Saginaw Facility and clinics in Mid-Michigan since December 2009.

Ms. Deitzen has lead the Aleda E. Lutz VAMC in many mission-critical successes to include being named Top Performer in Quality by the Joint Commission for 2010 and 2011 in Pneumonia Measures, continuous achievements in a number of healthcare accreditations, and has overseen the opening of four VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Bad Axe, Cadillac, Cheboygan County, and Grayling.   Her high standards have led VA staff to continually strive for performance improvement.

During her tenure, the implementation of Systems ReDesign, improved relationships with Congressional/Senatorial Delegates, opened lines of communication with staff through monthly Town Hall Forums and opportunities for staff to meet with the Director to discuss any topic, and many more significant accomplishments have made the VA Medical Center in Saginaw a partner with community, a desirable place of employment for VA staff, and an organization which believes “improving our work, is our work.”

Ms. Deitzen will be greatly missed and the Veterans, volunteers, and staff wish her the very best. Ms. Stephanie Young will serve as the Medical Center’s Acting Director until further notice.
