Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

The VA Inpatient Rehabilitation unit has 10 beds and is located on the first floor of Building 22. For information click HERE

 

The Rehabilitation unit treats individuals with conditions including, but not limited to:

* Stroke

* Amputations

* Major multiple trauma

* Brain injury

* Polyarthritis

* Neurological disorders

* Spinal Cord Injury

*Deconditioning


 

The Rehabilitation Team will consist of:

*Rehab Doctor

*Medical Doctor

*Nurse Practitioner

*Dietitian

*Social Worker

*Rehab Nurses

*Psychologist

*Physical Therapist

*Occupational Therapist

*Recreational Therapist

*Speech Therapist

*Respiratory Therapist

*Pharmacists

 Inpatient Rehabilitation Staff


    
The rehabilitation patients are expected to participate in at least 90 minutes of therapy daily to reshape and restore lost abilities after an illness or injury. An individual care plan is developed for each specific needs. The patient will receive daily schedules for their therapy times and meetings. Family members are also an important part of the team in the recovery process and are encouraged to participate in therapy sessions prior to discharge, to learn how to assist the patient in the home environment. Upon discharge, the patient may continue with outpatient services or home health care provided by the VA. 

 

Inpatient Rehabilitation Goals: To optimize each patient’s function including but limited to

  • Speech
  • Swallowing
  • Bowel and bladder management
  • Adaptation of disability
  • Potential for vocational productivity
  • Bathe
  • Groom
  • Dress
  • Use a wheelchair or be able to walk
  • Practice kitchen skills
  • Learn grocery shopping
  • How to get around in the community
